When you think of Mexico, chances are tequila, mariachi music, and ballet folklorico come to mind. That’s because each one of these things is a national treasure, a point of cultural pride across the country. What sets tequila tastings in Puerto Vallarta apart is the fact that our state of Jalisco is where the spirit was born, and the only place it is made to this day. Knowledge makes everything better – even the taste of tequila – and the best place in town to learn (and drink) our national spirit is Viva Tequila, an immersive PV trolley tour, museum, guided tasting, and live show at Teatro Vallarta, every Friday night through May.

Start with an Old Town Trolley Tour

It all starts at 5pm in Plaza Peninsula Vallarta (Francisco Medina Ascencio 2485), where the Viva Tequila trolley picks up passengers for an hour-long tour of Old Town. Then at 6pm, theater doors open to reveal an enlightening wonderland dedicated to the art of tequila distilling – from growing and harvesting the blue agave to mashing, fermenting, aging, and drinking the sacred spirit.

Along the way, a Master Tequilero will guide you through tasting each of tequila’s three incarnations: crystal clear Blanco, golden Reposado, and oak-aged Añejo. Taste buds tantalized and belly warm, what follows is a lively celebration of Mexican culture in the form of a live show, featuring 30+ gorgeously costumed performers depicting everything from pre-Hispanic culture to charro rodeos, mariachi music, and folk dancing.

End the Night Over Dinner on the Malecón

Tickets are $80 USD for the Viva Tequila experience, but you can add a romantic dinner at a famous Mexican or Italian restaurant on the Malecón for just an extra $14. To more information click here: Tequila.
