Travel Tips: How to Pack a Suit Wrinkle-free

business-trip

When packing we need to accomplish two things: maintain enough space for every single item and pack in a way that won’t make clothes suffer- we are talking about creasing, stains and wrinkles.
Perhaps one of the most important yet complicated items to pack is a suit. First we need to make sure it stays in place and won’t be shifting from one side of the bag to the next during the journey. Second we’ll need to take the suit’s fabric into consideration and handle it accordingly. Last but not least we simply have to minimize or prevent wrinkles altogether; you don’t want to have to start ironing the second you land.

I have a few steps you can follow to achieve a wrinkle-free suit. Let’s get started!

  1. Button up the jacket and lay it face down on a flat surface.
  2. Fold the first shoulder towards the center – the fold should start where the padding of the shoulder ends.
  3. Bring down the arm and flatten the sleeve to smooth it.
  4. Repeat the folding process for the other side.
  5. Place the slacks (folded in quarters) on top of the jacket.
  6. Fold up the lower half of the jacket to cover the slacks.
  7. Place the suit inside a sealable plastic bag to avoid any spills or stains.

For the shirt it’s simple: minimize the number of folds and keep them along the seams. What about the tie and the socks? Roll them up neatly and stuff them into the shoulders of your suit jacket to keep its shape and save space.  Now it’s time for the shoes- consider wearing them. Expert travelers agree that it’s best to wear your heaviest pair of shoes and pack the others. This makes it easier to carry your luggage and avoid ruining your clothes.
Our overall advice is to treat the suit gently. It will help to get it to the destination ready to wear and keep you looking sharp for your big event.
