Tips for traveling to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

Travel Tips

There’s nothing like a fabulous vacation along the stunning Pacific Riviera in Mexico. Puerto Vallarta is the ultimate destination to get away from it all, and it’s easy to reach as a major airline hub. But before you pack your bags and head for the airport, we’ve put together a few helpful tips for traveling to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

Brush off that Spanish dictionary and learn a few simple phrases. English is spoken everywhere in the tourist areas, but it will still help to know basic greetings like hola (hello), por favor (please) and gracias (thank you). Also make sure to bring along Mexican pesos, the official currency of the country.

US dollars are widely accepted, but it can’t hurt to have a mix of both dollars and pesos in your wallet. Other items to throw in your suitcase include a map or guidebook to help you get oriented on the ground and plenty of memory space on your camera, because you will be taking a lot of photos!

The tropical climate is ideal all year long, so bring your favorite swimsuits, warm-weather clothes and layers to stay comfortable into the evening. If you are going from June to October, it is smart to also pack an umbrella just in case.

Puerto Vallarta is an incredibly diverse region and is home to artists, American retirees and a large LGBT community. Once you arrive, you can make your trip a lot more pleasant by exploring the spectacular beaches of Banderas Bay, the renowned local cuisine and shopping boutiques in Zona Romantica
