Welcoming Spring: The Year’s Most Colorful and Joyful Season

Primavera

Spring: The season where the weather, flowers and sun are reborn; after the cold of the winter, it brings light and color to the natural world.

In Spanish, the word Primavera (Spring) comes from the words “prima” (first) and “vera” (greenness). In the northern hemisphere it begins with the vernal equinox on March 21st and ends with the summer solstice on June 21st. In the southern hemisphere, Spring occurs from September 21st to December 21st.

Principal Characteristics

  • Increased temperature and hours of light
  • Mild climate
  • Flowers open continuously

Experts on the subject say that falling in love and people’s enthusiasm increase due to changes in the weather; sunlight causes hormonal changes in the body, which in turn provokes emotional changes as well.

In the past the beginning of this season in Mexico was celebrated with parades and floats. This custom seems to have only remained in preschool and elementary schools, where you will see many children dressed as flowers, butterflies, bumblebees and crickets. Sometimes a ‘Queen of Spring’ is even crowned.

Take advantage of this season’s perfect climate and gorgeous scenery to take a vacation in two of the most beautiful destinations in Mexico: Puerto Vallarta and the Riviera Nayarit. The arrival of Spring, Holy Week and Easter creates an ideal time for relaxing on the golden beaches of the Mexican Pacific.
