We’ve all seen them – surfers high above the crest of a wave, riding a roaring barrel all the way to shore, or on their bellies, paddling out to catch “The Big One.” If you’ve ever watched these athletes in wonder, now is your chance to learn at a number of surfing classes in Vallarta-Nayarit. Mostly held in sunny Sayulita – where the water is warm and waves of all sizes break year-round in every direction (especially December-April) – each school offers a slightly different take on the sport. Marlin #4, Sayulita
Family owned and operated, this friendly outfit offers a range of surfing lessons, camps, and equipment rentals, recommended by National Geographic, Travel & Leisure, and The Huffington Post. Their 1.5-hour lesson includes 30 minutes on land, an hour on the water, and an extra hour of surfboard rental, all for $40-$60 USD. For beginners, they even go so far as to GUARANTEE you’ll stand on the board during your first lesson, or you don’t have to pay. Other options include 3-Day ($110-$160), 5-Day ($150-$240), and 7-Day Packages ($210-$320).

Offering basic lessons, multi-day camps, road trips and boat trips, this is a great option if you want to learn to surf in a variety of places. They only schedule one class a day, starting at $55 per person.
