For many of us, the perfect day on a Mexican getaway involves at least one round at a local watering hole. Whether it’s a rustic michelada from a streetside stall to start the day or upscale drinks on a 4-poster beach bed, you’ll find it all in PV.
High on the list of things to do during your Banderas Bay getaway is likely nothing at all, toes in the sand with a drink in your hand. Tropical cocktails, Mexican craft beer, tequila, raicilla, and a host of local favorites await at Puerto Vallarta bars for every taste, from swanky lounges to umbrellas on the beach. Here’s a handful of our favorite places to grab a drink or few, no matter the occasion:
Av Mexico 1093
At least one day in PV should begin with the namesake drink served here, as well as at numerous walk-up stalls across town bearing the name “Micheladas.” What is a Michelada exactly? Consider it a Mexican Bloody Mary with Clamato or tomato juice, Maggi / Worcestershire, lime, hot sauce, a pinch of salt, and beer instead of vodka.
Mantamar Beach Bar
Calle Malecón 169
After your streetside michelada, head to Mantamar for a stylish, decidedly upscale afternoon on the Malecón. Chill out in a four-poster bed on the beach or in the swanky pool, complete with a swim-up bar.
The famous sands of Los Muertos Beach are home to this charming beachfront bar with a tasty food menu and incredible selection of Mexican craft beer.
Los Muertos Brew Pub
Lázaro Cárdenas 302
Speaking of craft beer, here you’ll find up to 10 locally brewed creations ranging from the chili-spiked Anillo de Fuego to the cactus-laced Agave Maria. Their pizzas are a culinary force to be reckoned with as well.
P’yote Lounge & Piano Bar
Guadalupe Sanchez 740
The artful bar at world-renowned Café des Artistes is the place to come if you want to try something new. A play on the classic martini, their “Mezcalinis” make tequila’s smoky mezcal cousin the star, accented by flavors like prickly pear, pineapple, lemon, and chili.
