Mandalas, Relaxation through sight

by Julieta Del Toro

As part of the decor that enhance the facilities of the Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit Spa, the unparalleled beauty of the mandalas stands out, created daily with various seasonal flowers.

The origin of the word mandala comes from Sanskrit and means sacred circle. It is a symbol of healing, totality, union and integration, used frequently as part of relaxation techniques in oriental philosophies. Through clay sculpture, painting or flowers, mandalas are created to evoke contact with our inner peace and relax the senses.

Early every morning, spa personnel head to the gardens to cut fresh regional flowers such as bougainvillea and hibiscus, according to their unique mandala vision for the day. They then create their designs, ranging from representations of the the yin-yang  to angels. The creation of these mandalas takes from 20 to 40 minutes depending on the desired image.

In this manner the mandalas become one of the distinctive seals of the SPA at Grand Velas, receiving excellent comments from guests and local visitors alike who are impressed by the lovely sight of these fresh, creative and relaxing designs.

Mandalas are an expression of the Magic in Service the Staff at Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit makes day by day!
