A seahorse … okay, they are fascinating creatures, but really, who sees seahorses in everyday life? Unless you are a professional diver or work in an aquarium, it is difficult to see them.

Instead, go for a walk and discover an area with abundant flora near a river (something very easy in Vallarta-Nayarit) you will find another region’s icon: The Green Iguana or Queen Iguana.

Its scientific name is Iguana iguana, and they can be found from central Mexico to Argentina. Its natural color is green with black stripes on the tail, however in their reproductive stage; you can see red colors on their body. They can grow up to two meters long.

If you’re on vacation and you plan to go hiking in the jungle, this is a great opportunity to watch iguanas, is a matter of opening the eyes well and look through the trees. Usually you can find them in the cups of the trees or on the shores; these creatures are so reckless that regardless of weight or size, they rest on the thinnest branch just to take the first rays of sun a day to reach 28-35 ° C in their bodies and “operate” properly, since they are cold blooded.

But also in the city is easy to find them. In Puerto Vallarta, you can find them doing their morning warming in the Río Cuale Island, where you will also find typical crafts and items of the region to take home as a souvenir.

They are also charismatic and are always posing for the camera. Do not miss the opportunity to come to Vallarta-Nayarit and meet these specimens in their natural habitat.

As a curious note, you will also find they also exist in the region Striped Iguana (Ctenosaura similis) aka “Garrobo” … But we’ll leave that story for later.
