Kitesurfing in Puerto Vallarta: Flying over the Waves

Kitesurfing is another exciting water sport practiced in Vallarta-Nayarit. It consists of being pulled by a kite as you glide over the water on small surf-like board. The idea is to be able to keep your balance, maneuver the board and do tricks in the air. The kite is attached to the body of the kiteboarder by four to five cords.

Although it is a sport that requires training, on the beaches of Banderas Bay you’ll find people to train you and who make the sport available to tourists as a vacation activity. There’s even the Wind Festival in Bucerias, where professional kiteboarders compete to be the best in the sport.

To get started you’ll need to take a course on how to handle the kite; the most important thing is to be able to control it. It’s also very important to check the weather- too much wind can be dangerous.
