International Women’s Day

By Haydé Escalante

“All through my life there has always been a woman to take me by the hand and lead me through the confusion of existence, which women understand better than men… I think nothing awful can happen to me if I’m with women. They make me feel secure. Without this security I couldn’t have done half the worthwhile things I’ve done in my life…”

Gabriel García Márquez

dia internacional de la mujer

On March 8th, 1857 a group of working women made their labor rights known as they protested their inhumane working conditions. Thus began the various women’s movements demanding labor equality so that they could also care for their children. We can’t deny that the situation has improved since that time, but there’s still a long way to go; little by little ground has been made in different industries.

Although we like to be celebrated by the opposite sex, it is my opinion that we should be the ones celebrating what we have achieved; the modern woman has managed to balance her career with her family life. On this day, celebrate yourself! It is also our obligation and right to pamper ourselves several days a year, especially on this day. Take a break to reflect and examine the path you have traveled and your achievements.

Congratulate the most important women in your life. Let them know how important they are to you; a great idea is to plan a dinner with your friends or family to celebrate what makes them proud to be a woman. Don’t forget to give yourself a present- something that makes you feel good, like a massage or spa treatment; go to the beauty salon or eat at your favorite restaurant.

On this special day the Vallarta Travel Blog would like to congratulate every woman (without the adjective ‘working’ because that would be redundant). This post is a tribute to all women: our mothers, sisters and friends, the ones that have always been there, in the past and present.
