Explore “Secret” Riviera Nayarit Beaches & Untouched Islands

You’ve planned your trip to the Mexican Pacific with the beach in mind. Now the question is: How to make the most of your time in and by the water? While you can surely spend your entire vacation perfectly happy by the pool, there’s no better feeling than venturing out to discover your very own paradise on the best secret islands and hidden beaches in Riviera Nayarit.

Rest & Recreation at Playa Destiladera

As you venture out of town on Highway 200, head 45 minutes north for this white sand playland between Bucerías and La Crux de Huanacaxtle. If you have any trouble finding it, just follow the colorful kites surely filling the sky overhead. The coast is quiet and afternoon winds kind, making it perfect for boogie boarding, windsurfing, or splashing in the shallow waters.

The Rustic, Romantic Beaches of Lo de Marcos

Another 40 minutes north sits the sleepy fishing village of Lo de Marcos. Here you’ll find three of the most gorgeous beaches in all of Riviera Nayarit – all practically empty if you come early on a weekday. If you’re hungry, don’t miss out on the mouthwatering, fresh-caught, marinated and grilled local specialty, pescado zarandeado. If you prefer a more secluded experience, take the beachfront road south and follow the signs for Playa Los Veranos. Another secret almost as well kept as the location of the quiet cove itself is the small family restaurant that serves oysters harvested right here.

Quiet Island Sanctuaries Off Guayabitos

Another secret treat for nature-lovers is sightseeing on and around Isla Coral and Isla Cangrejo, both a short boat ride from Rincón de Guayabitos. These protected habitats are unpopulated by man, but rife with exotic birds, crabs, manta rays, tropical fish, and turtles – making them a dream for snorkelers, scuba divers, and hikers alike.
