Freeing the Turtles at Velas Vallarta

by Julieta Del Toro

As an activity for guests and as part of the plan developed to continue the conservation of the natural environment, last Thursday the 26th of August the freeing of 189 turtles took place on the beach in front of the resort.

Staff trained by the environmental group Nuestra Tierra helped more than 100 people take part in this marvelous experience.

Species such as the Gulf Turtle and the Laud Turtle (the largest sea turtle), are some of the many who visit the tranquil beaches of the coast of the Bay of Banderas during this season. The turtles come to lay their eggs, which are found and placed by staff in protected areas until they hatch.

During the months of August and September alone, more than 1200 baby turtles were freed on the Velas Vallarta beach. This achievement was undoubtedly made possible by all of those who participated in the activity to help the local natural wildlife and ecosystem.
