An Adventure in El Salado!

Things to do

Would you like to see crocodiles up close? If your answer is yes, we have just the place for you right here in Puerto Vallarta. We invite you to visit the El Salado estuary; this unique, protected natural area in Mexico covers approximately 169 hectares of mangroves, marsh and medium jungle.

It has a registry of over 100 species of birds, both aquatic and terrestrial, as well as amphibians, reptiles and mammals. The estuary also shelters a large number of flora and fauna specimens in different protected categories.

El Salado offers a great tour led by a biologist that covers about 1 km aboard the boat “The Adventurer”, where you can see the great diversity of wildlife and the three species of mangrove and their main features. You can also go up to the watchtower to see the entire protected area from above.

The estuary is permanently connected to the ocean by a channel that is almost 20 meters wide, 3 meters deep and 2 kilometers long, and flows into the sea. The perfect blend of fresh and salt water creates very healthy conditions for the development of many species.

You’ll be able to see reptiles like the green iguana, the darker ‘garrobo’ iguana and river crocodiles roaming freely, and mammals in the mangroves such as find raccoons and opossums.

Fall in love with all the animals as you walk through their natural habitat in the fresh air. This outing is a must, and is open from Tuesday to Saturday at different times in the mornings and afternoons.

We recommend wearing comfortable clothes and shoes, and bringing a hat for sun protection, biodegradable insect repellent biodegradable, a water bottle and your camera to photograph the entire experience.
