Mismaloya Beach
Mismaloya beach is located seven miles south of town on Highway 200. The entrance is at the bottom of the hill between The La Jolla de Mismaloya Resort and the bridge. It is probably the most famous beach in Puerto Vallarta for its history since it is the place where the 1963 movie Night of The Iguana was filmed. This 500-meter-long beach enjoys a impressive tropical setting with lush jungle in the backgroung and a small river breaking the beach in two almost equal parts.
Mismaloya is like a mini-bay inside Banderas Bay, making it a very safe place to swim and extremely popular among families. A few fresh seafood restaurants can be found on the beach offering reasonably priced menus and excellent dishes. The original movie set is now a restaurant at the far end of the beach and several palapa-style eateries line the beach offering an array of delights for eating and drinking.
Jet-skis, parasailing and small boats can be rented and water taxis will take you to some more remote beaches like Yelapa or Majahuitas. Several species of wildlife have been spotted in the hills above the beach, including many different types of birds and land animals such as deer, pumas, jaguars, quails, monkeys and armadillos.
