Swimming in a pool is one thing, but fighting the waves, salt water, and sun of the sea is a whole new ballgame. Now open to 38,000 swimmers in 26 countries, our very own 7th Annual Riviera Nayarit Open Water Swim Tournament is one of only four in all of Mexico to be appointed part of the internationally ranked Global Swim Series (GSS). Set in the pristine waters of Banderas Bay, right off the palm-lined coast of La Cruz de Huanacaxtle in Vallarta-Nayarit, swimming has never been as beautifully competitive as this world-class race.

Who’s Eligible to Participate?

Now in its seventh year, the tournament has grown to over 700 swimmers of all experience levels, ages 7-70+. That means that even if it’s your first open water race, you’re welcome to get your feet wet. The course consists of a 1.25km circuit around which ages 15 and older swim 1-3 laps. Separate brackets and start times are allotted to ages 7-10 (on a separate 500m circuit), and 11-14. Professionals swim 5km, with cash prizes for the first five finishers ($500-$4,000 MXN).

About the Global Swim Series

Equally focused on competition and getting fresh faces in the water, GSS is all about cultivating a passionate worldwide culture of open water swimmers. Currently, theirs is the largest collection of races on the planet, and the number is only growing.
