Located north of La Cruz de Huanacaxtle in the Vallarta-Nayarit, just an hour’s drive towards Punta de Mita, we find Destiladeras. It’s a beach with warm waters, white sands and a relaxed vibe with shades of blue in an endless sea that blends into the sky.
Destiladeras is a popular surfer’s hangout and also frequented by families and friends who gather around a table beneath an umbrella on the beach. Here you can forget about it all, savor seafood dishes offered by the little palapas attended by locals and refresh yourself with a tasty fruit cocktail in a cold pineapple, filled with jícama, mango and cucumber with a slightly sweet touch of orange juice and mild piquín chili….a truly tropical ambrosia. –Yes, it made my mouth water too.
The day passes and night begins to fall and there’s nothing better than sitting at a table and letting the hours while away with a beer in hand and your feet in the sand while humming along to a popular song performed by a group of musicians at the next table over. Three boys are playing frisbee in the distance. From one minute to the next you forget about the daily grind at the office, the city and the rumble of the cars. Then comes the unmistakable smell of salt, the scent of the sea. Smile, drink a coconut water….you’re in the Riviera Nayarit!
