Reopening of the Marieta Islands

Just over 4 months ago CONANP (National Commission of Natural Protected Areas) issued a statement which reported that one of the wonders of Riviera Nayarit, the Marieta Islands National Park, would be temporarily closed. The reason: an ambitious restoration program caused by poor tourism practices, impacting on the biodiversity of the islands.

During the past weekend, the CONANP announced the reopening of the Marieta Islands this August 31st. Along with some specifications and practices to keep them in good condition and so visitors can enjoy them to the fullest. It will be also conducting the monitoring and restoration of coral reefs permanently.
